The Child Mind Insitute helps to  transform mental health care for children everywhere. It was founded by Dr. Harold S. Koplewicz, Brooke Garber Neidich, and Debra G. Perelman, the organization is committed to finding more effective treatments for childhood psychiatric and learning disorders, building the science of healthy brain development, and empowering children and their families with help, hope, and answers.

Innovation and information can bring transformation. The Child Mind Institute is improving the lives of children and teens struggling with psychiatric and learning disorders by integrating the following elements:

  • Accessible, evidence-based clinical care for children and their families
  • Visionary, collaborative research engaging scientists from around the world in the discovery of more effective treatments and the exploration of new frontiers in the science of healthy brain development
  • Trustworthy, comprehensive information and resources to educate and empower parents
  • Passionate, focused advocacy to destigmatize childhood psychiatric disorders and bring effective care to families around the globe.

The money fundraised helps us to build a global institution that will be a leader in turning science into solutions for the world’s children. We’ve opened a clinical program that offers children and their families personalized, evidence-based treatments for psychiatric and learning disorders; our aim is for no child to be turned away because of his family’s inability to pay. We’ve started a research program, collaborating with nationally renowned scientists to study healthy brain development; our aim is to discover biological markers of psychiatric and learning disorders.

We’ve launched a website to offer parents the information, advice, and support they need to get help for their children with psychiatric problems; our goal is to extend public education and resources on child mental health to teachers, pediatricians, and other mental health professionals, as well as to children and teens.

We need your help in this unprecedented effort. Join us on the ground floor to revolutionize the science of child mental health, remove the stigma of psychiatric illness, and extend care to all the children who need it.

The Child Mind Institute has teamed up with Star Wars: Force For Change website which is helping a variety of different charities.

The Star Wars: Force for Change was set up following the massive global success of Star Wars: A New Hope in the late 1970’s, fans began to embrace Lucas’ stories of struggle, hope and inspiration on a more personal level.  Philanthropy was very important to George Lucas — he used early screenings to raise money for charities around the world with a particular emphasis on children’s healthcare and education.  Over the course of the last 35+ years, Star Wars fans have continued George’s mission to support philanthropy by volunteering their time to countless charities across the world and raising millions of dollars in donations.

With new Star Wars stories on the horizon, and generous support from Disney, we seek to continue George’s humanitarian vision. Star Wars: Force for Change aims to support the immense passion and goodwill of our fans and promote change through inspiration, stories and meaningful partnerships.

To finish off this piece , I leave with you a quote that George Lucas’s once used when talking about Heroes which is used as the inspiration behind the founding of the Star Wars: Force for Change.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, … [like] caring about other people–these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives. You don’t have to get into a giant laser-sword fight and blow up three spaceships to become a hero.” George Lucas – Mythology of Star Wars.
