Catching Fire Inspired Workout

With the recent release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, badass women are at the forefront of the entertainment industry. Not only is Katniss Everdeen kind hearted and strong, she’s also an ass-kicking female! So, grab your weapons of choice, head out to your District of Panem and start your training for the next Hunger Games!

In order to make it past day one of the Games, you’re going to need to be able to run — and fast! Begin your workout with a cardio session. You’re going to be dodging arrows, bullets and other types of weaponry, so ensure that you run fast!

Warm up by moving at a brisk pace for about 3 minutes and then run hard for about 5 minutes. Continue this pattern for a minimum of 30 minutes. However, if you need to take a longer resting period, or even a break, don’t hesitate to do so. Do what feels most comfortable for you. After all, you can always take cover in the thicker parts of the forest!

To avoid the other tributes, you may need to find higher ground — perhaps by climbing a tree! To prepare for this daunting task, grab hold of an exercise ball and lie down so that your middle and upper back are on the ball. Raise your hips (as best you can) so that your body forms a straight line and take a dumbbell (whatever weight you can manage) and hold it straight above your forehead. Then, slowly, without moving your upper arm, lift the weight behind your head and then raise it back upwards. This will work your arm muscles so that you’ll be prepared to master any feat to avoid being killed during the Games!

If you want to channel your inner Katniss, a bow and arrow might just be your weapon of choice, and for that, you need to ensure that your arms and back are fighting fit! To help with this, a good (and classic) exercise would be the Triangle Push-Up. Move onto the ground and place your hands onto the floor and underneath your chest. Move your hands so that they form a triangle, bend your elbows out to the side, and push up. Do 3 sets of 12 (or however many you can manage.)
