News: Disney Buys Lucasfilm

Elissa Smith October 30, 2012 2

Well, you probably already heard the news, but just in case you haven’t been on the internet today, Disney bought Lucasfilm for 4 billion dollars, according to USA Today:

The buyout ranks among one of the largest ever made by Disney. It’s fourth behind the $19.7 billion, $7.6 billion and $5.2 billion buyouts of Capital Cities/ABC in 1995, Pixar in 2006 and Fox Family in 2001, respectively, says S&P Capital IQ. It tops the $3.96 billion Disney paid for Marvel in August 2009.

It has also been confirmed that Disney plans to make more Star Wars films, with the latest due in 2015.

So, dear readers, what do you think? Are you at all concerned by this, or do you think Disney actually has what it takes to make a good Star Wars film?

I feel like I’m the only one not freaking out because I’m just thinking of all of the potential. Star War ride at Disney Land. Apparently there’s already one at Disney World though. Also, merch at the Disney Store. I’m not much for classic Disney movies, but now I love going in for their Marvel merch. I can’t wait to for them to start producing Gravity Falls merch. They need to sell a Mabel sweater.

Not too sure how I feel about this. I can’t say Disney has done a bad job with the things it has purchased. Plus they seem to let those who already know what they’re doing have creative control. Maybe SW eps 7-9 can erase the horror or eps 1-3?
My friend made a joke about how we can now expect to see Darth Maul appear in a Kingdom Hearts game.
Is Leia now considered one of the Disney princesses?
