Back to school? Need help procrastinating? From Jughead to Justice League, see below for September’s top comics stories.
DC Comics
Drop that Hero and Get Yourself a Zero: September was Zero Month, delivering an eyebrow-raiser in Flash #0, and the welcome addition of actual anatomy to the Catwoman #0 cover. Thoughts? Feels? Sound off below!
Sad to See You Lee-Ving: Jim Lee left the Justice League title and is being replaced by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado. This news comes just in time for the new crossover between JL and Aquaman in Throne of Atlantis. Expect it in issue #15.
Small Wonder: The CW is apparently working on a Wonder Woman TV adaptation. As long as it steers far, far away from the David E. Kelley attempt, I support this idea.
Arrow’d: The Arrow TV series is going to have a comic tie-in, to be released on October 10, with the series premiere. The first installment will be drawn by Mike Grell!
Marvel Comics
Uncanny Valley? of Awesomeness!: Marvel announced that Sam Humphries and Ron Garney will be the new creative team behind Uncanny X-Force. Expect to see Storm and Psylocke, among others.
Mortal Combat: If you were thinking, “there really aren’t enough young people killing each other in arenas anymore”, you’re in luck: MarvelNOW! is going to release a little something called Avengers Arena.
Thor’s Soooo Worldly?: Thor: Dark Worlds may actually cover all nine realms from the series, going well beyond depictions of just Earth and Asgard. I will go see this based on this premise alone.
Totally Kick(s) Ass: Mark Millar is going to save 20th Century Fox’s X-Men and Fantastic Four projects from possible suckitude by serving as a creative consultant! Huzzah!
Vertigo
Y u no make this already?: New Line Cinema is reportedly moving forward with its Y: The Last Man film adaptation, scouting directors to finally make this an actual thing. Yay!
Dark Horse Comics
Mostly Ghostly: Perhaps one of the label’s biggest releases of the year, Ghost #0, hit shelves this month. Thoughts? Feels? I want to read this so badly.
Archie Comics
Jughead’s Revenge: As parts of its “rejuvenation” attempts, Archie Comics has announced the cancellation of the Jughead title. Gritty reboot? Please do a gritty reboot. This can be the title: Jughead: Heavy is the Head that Wears the Crown. You’re welcome.
The Wonderful and the Whyyyyy?!
Wonderful: Marvel turned Brian “Weapon X” Hawkins of the Philadelphia Eagles into Wolverine. Well, not literally. We can all keep reaching for that rainbow.
Whyyyyy?!: Stan Lee had to cancel appearances and got pacemaker surgery. He’s okay. It just sucks to be reminded that people you admire are mortal. Thank god for superheroes (unless they’re female, in which case they stay dead).
Wonderful: Big winners at this year’s Harvey Awards were Daredevil, Batwoman and Hark! A Vagrant. Excellent!
Wonderful: Cosplayers re-enacted the cover of Astonishing X-Men #51 with their own nuptials at Dragon*Con. I’m not crying, it’s raining on my face.
