Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, has a new solo series—and if you haven’t picked up the amazing first issue, you’re missing out! A prominent member of the Avengers, the focus of the new series by Matt Fraction and David Aja is on Clint the man, not Hawkeye of the Avengers. And what makes him such an appealing hero is that he doesn’t have super-human strength, or an iron suit/weapon, or the ability to turn very green and large. No, Clint is just a guy. Who just so happens to have an amazing shot.
The result? A fresh, gritty, and real look at the rough but deep-down nice guy behind the costume. In this first issue, we see Clint, who is recovering from a major wound, finding himself in a battle with none other than his corrupt Russian landlord, who has the unfortunate habit of saying “bro”. A lot. (You think I’m kidding, but I’m serious).
The artwork is simple, graphic, and stunning – and visually portrays Clint’s brash nature perfectly. Though the alternating scenes between past and present are, at times, a bit confusing and unclear, by the end of issue everything comes full circle in a satisfying way.
And even better? Pizza Dog (@Pizza_Dog) and Ivan the landord (@LandlordBro) have their own Twitter accounts! Which means we’ll probably see more of these two characters in future issues, which I’m very, very excited about.
